Temporary Structures and Home Communities, University of Jordan, Amman, Jordan, 2016
This project was a series of workshops leading up to an exhibition that asked artists to discuss transience and the pursuit of home and shelter. Led by Khaldoun Hijazin, Ethan Murrow, Diala Al Daghlise, and Patte Loper, art students at the University of Jordan collaborated to create an exhibition that began with the idea of the immigrant experience and responded with variety of drawing and building approaches. The final work showed the ways in which art can act as a proactive and reactive force in simple, economic and productive ways.
Some of the ideas we focused on were the material ingenuity of refugee communities, and how recycling, failure, and risk-taking can be useful ideas in art making.
